Artist Statement
Keryn Hyslop creates mixed media artworks that combine colour, texture, and hand-crafted paper elements. Birds often appear as central subjects, accompanied by leaves, flowers, branches, and other natural forms.
Working with layered paint and collage, she builds compositions that draw on observations of Queensland landscapes, wildlife, and everyday experiences. Rich colour, textured surfaces, and cut-paper elements are recurring features throughout her work. Keryn’s process is highly intuitive and experimental and is largely intuitive and develops through experimentation with paint, texture, and collage.
Foundational layers are often created using palette knives, scraping tools, my hands, and other methods rather than traditional brushes. Paint is repeatedly applied, removed, and reworked to develop texture and surface detail.
Once the painted layers are established, I create birds, leaves, and other natural forms on paper. These elements are painted, cut by hand, and assembled into the final composition.
The cut-paper approach reflects an interest in artists such as Matisse and Picasso, while maintaining a focus on hand-made construction and variation between works. Because each piece is assembled individually, no two artworks are identical.

2008 – 2014 Artist – Self Employed, Lillipilli Lane - textile art exhibition throughout Australia and International including Awards at Noosa show in 2012 and 2013. Based in Noosa Hinterland After school art activities and school under 8’s art sessions. Art Auction with all paintings sold for Charity. Member of local art group.
