Intuitive Abstract painting…A state of flow
Beginning at an early age I made art. I made my paintings in dirt, sand, sometimes even in clay. My tools were my fingers, hands and or sticks or stones, leaves and found or re-purposed items. Unexpected and pure creation for the joy of it.
My backgrounds while uncomposed, flow with an unexpectation of how they may resolve and within that there is a powerful expectancy that they will be as they are and resolved. The art of intuitive abstract painting is to allow the flow and not to try to overly compose this type of abstract art. It is a story of creative freedom to create to be engaged in the visual story being created and to step back out of the constraints of the logic and perfectionism. This then provides space for the growth of creation at a deep level beyond the rationale. These abstracts stories of rich colour and texture represent landscapes and elements and swirls, zig zags dots and dashes suggest these. I apply paint then move it around to form abstract shape, form or ideas in a largely intuitive process, drawing on imagination, memory and personal experience.
The abstract style is a way to play and represent often intangible concepts that speak visually. This sense of staying connected and yet creating freely is a way to bypass the mind and logic to provide a purely sensual experience. This then allows others to sense the feeling and emotion the story that lies below logic and rational analysing thought processes. This also provides a sense of joy and happiness within the process of creating art, a deep sense of creating from one’s own deep well of a life lived and told through expressive abstract style drawing on one’s own intuition and emotion. And that is deeply nourishing. They key is to accept and to not stand in a place of critique and or judgement, but to simply see accept understand and love you art, as it is an expression of oneself.
Art may then bring the full story and engage the viewer in more than one way. My abstract art is visceral. It is an invitation to see with your heart and it’s reaction to the glory of colour and texture held deeply within the art itself. Often there are deeper meanings and stories than are seen upon seeing the art at different times and in different light. That is a deep joy and fun of playing in this way the intelligence has a sense of play and humour too.
I have been creating abstract art in this way for a long time and am amazed what still is to be uncovered expressed and learnt. It is an evolving process and story. The key is to let yourself evolve.
