Clarity is an original mixed media artwork inspired by the black swans of the Moreton Bay coastline around Wynnum, Manly and Lota, Brisbane.
A gathering of swans moves across the water beneath a canopy of handmade paper leaves. The younger birds are shown in their distinctive mottled plumage, alongside a mature swan in lighter plumage — a quiet reminder that every bird begins somewhere and changes with time.
Behind them, golden sunlight meets the green of the foreshore, while layers of deep blue create the water and give the birds a strong sense of place.
The work grew from observing these familiar swans in the Moreton Bay area. Their presence, movement and companionship became the starting point for a piece about seeing clearly — noticing what is here, including the different stages of life unfolding around us.
The birds are individually made from paper and ink, with watercolour-painted paper leaves forming the canopy above them. An acrylic-painted background on canvas provides the richly textured water, shoreline and light.
Materials: Mixed media — acrylic, ink, watercolour and handmade paper on canvas
Size: 30 × 60 cm
Ready to hang

As with all handmade mixed media work, small variations and imperfections are part of the making process. They are part of the character of the work and the nature of handmade paper elements.
